Week 6

Hi!
It's hard to believe we are now half way through the term - where did the past 5 weeks go?

This week we are doing things a bit differently. We are not having maths or literacy rotations as we have lots to fit in. The children will be doing maths revision ahead of the maths exam on Thursday.
Our main focus for literacy is for the children to have finished writing their fairytale and also to have edited it and met with us to conference. We are also doing a short health, media and art unit focusing on bike safety. The children will be designing a PowerPoint and a comic strip for the assessment.
Amongst all this we will be busy preparing for our assembly next week! The celebrations for St. Bernardine's feast day on Wednesday will be a nice way for the children to enjoy a break from all the work. A reminder that this is a free dress day for a gold coin donation.

New spelling words went home today. The current grid is due next Monday. If the spelling list is misplaced, the words can be found on the Homework page. Some children will be bringing home reading parts for the assembly tomorrow. We will be practising these at home but ask that you please help them to practise at home as well.

Keep an eye out for your PTO username and pin. You will need this to sign in to book our Parent/Teacher interview. Bookings will be open from next Monday for 2 weeks. We recommend getting in early if you have a preferred time. This year, interviews will take place on Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th June.

A reminder of some important upcoming dates.
This week - 2 Green is hosting morning assembly prayer
Next week - 2 Green's assembly - Wednesday 29th May, 2.25pm in Siena
2 Green's mass - Wednesday 5th June

Have a great week and keep warm!

Week 5

Hi and welcome to week 5. We hope all the mums enjoyed their day yesterday. The children certainly enjoyed reflecting on what their mums mean to them and making their little gifts. Has anyone made use of their voucher yet?

Homework was due today (Book 2) and most children have taken home Book 1 for this fortnight's homework grid. Some children still have Book 1 at home which makes it two weeks overdue. Look out for the project task - a 'Must Do'. The children brought the 'My Mixtures' sheet home today. You don't have to wait the fortnight to return them. If they are finished before then, the children can bring them back and begin sharing them with the class. This worksheet will help introduce and facilitate our Science unit.

This week in Maths, we are revising the work we have done so far this term in readiness for the maths exam next week. We are continuing our focus on addition and the strategies to assist with this. Ask the children to explain Rainbow facts, Doubles, Near doubles and Turn arounds. You could also ask them to explain how subtraction and addition are linked.

In English, our focus is on compound sentences and conjuctions. The sound this week is long i - 'igh' & 'y'.

A reminder of some upcoming dates:

Week 6 - 2 Green is leading morning prayer at the daily school morning assembly.
Week 7 - Wednesday 29th May - 2 Green's assembly - 2.20pm in Siena
Week 8 - Wednesday 5th June - 2 Green is hosting mass at 9.00am in the church

Felicity & Melissa

Week 4

Hi All

Welcome to another week.

New spelling words have been sent home today. They are also available on the 'Homework' page of the blog. The challenge words we have been including relate to current unit words. This week we have included three words relating to the teaching of time in maths. The children don't have to learn the challenge words but it is good to encourage them to have a go.
A reminder that the children should be reading nightly.

You have probably heard that 2 Green is now on Twitter. You can find us at @2Green2013. Our aim to link the Twitter feed to the Blog so you don't need to sign up to Twitter to see it. Please be patient with us as we get our heads around this new technology!!

This week in maths the new concept we will be exploring is the link between subtraction and addition. In literacy, we are exploring synonyms, adjectives and adverbs.

A reminder the current homework grid is due next Monday.
We hope all the mother's enjoy their special day on Sunday.

Have a great week,
Felicity & Melissa

Week 3

Hi and welcome to another week.

A new homework grid went home today. It is due in a fortnight's time - Monday 13th May.
You will find the spelling words on the Homework Page if they get misplaced.
A reminder that the first homework grid of the term was due today. Please remind your child to return it if they haven't already.

This week in literacy we are focusing on the story 'The Little Red Hen'.  Our phonics focus is Long e - 'ee' & 'ea'.  We are also writing sentences using question marks and exclamation marks.

In maths we are continuing to practise counting in 3s and single digit addition plus we will be exploring how 3 digit numbers consist of hundreds, tens and ones.  We are revising 'o'clock' & 'half-past' and will introduce 'quarter past' and 'quarter to'. Reading analogue time is a concept children need a lot of practise with.

There are some important dates to remember:
Friday 3rd May - Disco: Years P - 3 5.30 pm - 7 pm
Wednesday 29th May - 2G Assembly @ 2.25 pm in Siena
Wednesday 5th June - 2G Mass @ 9 am in the church

Have a good week.

Dance Fever

Here are some pictures of the children getting their groove on today!

Week 2

Hi and welcome to another week.

We are fully in the swing of this term's units of work now. The children have learnt about the parts if the Bible as an introduction to the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament). Can any children remember how many books are in the Old and New Testaments?

The children are showing a great deal of interest in our History 'Anzac' unit. Today Jack shared his Grandfather's medals with us and we talked about Anzac Day symbols. The children are invited to represent St. Bernardine's in the Anzac Day march this Thursday. The school will meet at 9.30 am at Blackwell Street. The children are required to wear their Day 'check' uniform and they will need their hat.

You are welcome to join the school for the Anzac Day assembly at 2.15pm tomorrow (Wednesday 24th) in Siena.

Thanks to those who have brought their show boxes in already.

Have a good rest of the week,
Melissa & Felicity

Week 1

Welcome to Term 2! We hope you all had a wonderful Easter and an enjoyable holiday.  The children were very excited to walk into the classroom yesterday to find they had had a visit from the Easter bunny while they were away!  We began the morning with the whole school Resurrection Liturgy and they were lucky to receive another chocolate egg there as well.

We are beginning the first half of the term with an Anzac history unit with a focus on the symbols of Anzac Day and our local war memorial at Greenbank RSL. The children are invited to bring in any items or information your family may have that relates to this unit to make it a more personal experience for them. There will be more information about the work to be covered this term in the Term Two Letter which will come home shortly.

The children had their first dance fever lesson today and it was enjoy by all. They all did very well!

Have a good week,
Felicity and Melissa
