Term 2 Week 3

Welcome to week 3 of term 2… How quickly have the past few weeks gone!

Please remember 3 important events this week. First on Monday, all Yr 2 students will be walking to the Greenbank RSL for our excursion at 9 am.  This is part of our History unit “Australians at War”.  On Tuesday we have a Mother’s Day stall at school.  The children are asked to bring some money (.50c - $5) to buy a gift for Mother’s Day.  On Friday morning at 7.15am we will be celebrating a Mother’s Day Liturgy in the Church.  Please return the form sent home last week if you intend to stay for breakfast.  If you don’t not have the form please indicate on an email or note that I will send to the office for catering purposes.

The phonic focus this week is on the long vowel sound ‘O’ as in ‘oe’ ‘ow’ and ‘oa’.  Please help your child learn their spelling words as they have a spelling test every Friday morning. We are continuing our Information Report genre and will be writing a report on Elephants.  If your child has any books on Elephants they are welcome to bring them in to share with the class.

In maths this week the children will be looking at fair shares and division.

The value for the week is commitment.

Enjoy the week and kind regards,

Term 2 Week 2

This week we will begin our new units of work for this term.  Please refer to the classroom newsletter that was sent home on Wednesday afternoon for a detailed outline of the topics the students will be studying this term.
Homework and home readers will commence this week.  Homework is due in on Friday morning.  In spelling this week the students will be focusing on plurals "s" and "es".  In English, the students will be writing some descriptive texts this term.  This week we will be writing descriptive texts about "crocodiles".
Maths this week we will be relooking at 2D and 3D shapes.  Introducing the words chance, likely, unlikely, certain and impossible.
In History we will be looking at pictures of the Greenbank war memorial and studying different characteristics of this and where it is located. We will be discussing why they are special and the students will have to draw and label their own war memorial.  Please continue to collect and send in a shoe box and smaller boxes that fit inside the shoe box for your child to make their own suitcase to "go to war".
In Religion we will be beginning our work on the Old Testament and re familiarising ourselves with stories we have looked at before from the Old Testament; eg Noah's Ark and Creation.
Dance Fever is very Tuesday morning at 9 am.
A "BIG" congratulations to all the students in our class... 2G received BOTH the library class of term1 and the Music class of the term!! The Library challenge is awarded on the most number of students who have remembered to bring their library bags in the cohort and the Music award is based on points accumulated in class for behaviour for the whole school.  GREAT WORK 2G!!!  I'm very proud.

Enjoy your week.

Term 2 Week 1

Welcome to the start of term 2!  I hope you have all had a chance to relax and spend some time with family and friends.

This is only a short week with school returning on Tuesday 22nd April and Friday 25th April is the Anzac Day public holiday.

The school week will begin with a whole school mass at 10am in the hall to celebrate Easter.  Please remember that the students are invited to be involved in the Anzac Day March to the Greenbank RSL at 9.45 on the morning of the 25th.

Please remember to return your child’s Portfolio to me asap.

Dance fever commences this week with the year 2 students attending at 9 am each Tuesday morning during term 2.

Our home readers will be given out for the children to commence reading with you.  Please ensure that this is returned daily.  In your child’s reading folder I have put a comprehension sheet.  This sheet is to assist you in asking your child questions about the book they have read.  Many of the students can read well but fail to understand the information they have just read.  Please use this sheet as a guide to help you when you read with your child.

Enjoy your week.

Term 1 Week 9

Another very busy week ahead!!

The class will be putting the finishing touches (illustrations) on their recounts and they will also be creating the cover page for their Fairy Tale.  The spelling focus is on the long vowel sound I using "ight" and "I".  In Maths this week we will be revising some of the concepts that were covered in the Maths exam last week.

We are very busy making posters about God's creation and we will also be going on a walk through the school grounds as "St Bernardine's Detectives" looking for areas where people have not been stewards of God's creation.  We will be discussing at length how we can look after God's earth better than we do and how we can sustain our environment.

Enjoy your week.

Term 1 Week 8

Welcome to another very busy and exciting week in 2 Green.

This week we will be going to our excursion on Thursday to Mayes Cottage in Kingston.  This is a small 2 hour excursion and the 4 year 2 classes will be attending the Cottage in 2 sessions.  Our class and 2 Maroon will be attending the excursion in the morning and then 2Navy and 2White will attend when our group arrives back at school.  As the assessment task for English the children will have to write a recount of the excursion.

On Wednesday and Friday this week all the year 2 children will be sitting their term 1 Maths exam.  We have broken the test into 2 parts so it is not so big for one test.  Part A will be on Wednesday and part B on Friday.

The Phonic focus this week is the long vowel sound I as in "ie", "igh", "y".  The class have almost finished the final copies of their Fairy Tales, and they are excited to share these with you on showcase night , Wednesday 2 April 6pm - 7pm. I hope to see you there.

Please ask your child about the progress of our meal worms..... Personally it is always a relief when we have a successful life cycle occur in these classroom experiences.  We had 4 beetles by Friday afternoon and hopefully there will be more when we look at them tomorrow and during the remainder of the week.

Please feel free to contact me at any time.  Email or a note with your child is the best way or alternatively leave a message at the school office and I will contact you as soon as I can.

Enjoy your week.
