Term 3 Week 7

A very busy week ahead for all the class.  We had a puppet show yesterday in Siena hall, it was lots of fun.  This week we will be doing the last of the maths lessons as assessment will take place mid week next week.  We are also getting ready to do our book review next week.

Enjoy the remainder of this week.

Term 3 Week 4

A busy week ahead for our class again this week.  The class will be learning about "Alliteration" during literacy lessons this week as we continue to explore our Author Review on Pamela Allen. In maths we will be looking at direction, grids and co ordinates.

Please remember next week the 13th August is our assembly.  The children are very excited and have been working very hard on this.  Please give your child a coloured Tshirt to wear over their uniform for the assembly. It can be any bright colour and preferably without any large writing or picture on it.  The children will just wear their usual sports shorts for the pants.

Week 5 is a very irregular week as the Monday is a public holiday, Tuesday the 12th is our under eights day and the children will spend the morning doing different activities and the Wednesday is the Book Week Character Parade in the morning at 9.15 am and then our assembly is on in the afternoon at 2.25 pm..... The children will be very out of routine and excited to say the least!!!

My apologies for not blogging last week.  It was a very disrupted and whirl wind week as my Grandmother sadly passed away last Friday night and I then flew to Sydney on Tuesday, we had her funeral on the Wednesday and then I flew home on Thursday.  It was a very taxing week.

Enjoy the week ahead.
Kind regards,
Felicity

Term 3 Week 2

This week is another busy week.  Please remember that our class has their class photo on Tuesday.  All children need to be in full day uniform.

Please ask your child if they need more lead pencils, erasers or colours as many of the children are writing with very small pencils.  Please re stock your child's pencil case with the necessary items.

Many thanks.

Term 3 Week 1

Welcome back to school! We hope that everybody has had a fantastic holiday and that you are all ready for our third term of the year.  In Term 3, our English unit will incorporate a number of fun Pamela Allen texts, as we engage in an author study.  Students will look at a variety of literary devices including rhyme, rhythm and repetition and will then write and share a book review.  If you have any Pamela Allen books at home, please send them to school so your child can share them with the class. In Science, the children will be looking at “Force and motion”. This unit integrates Science, Technology and some components of Mathematics.  The children will explore ways that objects move and how the different strength of pushes and pulls affects the movement of objects. In pairs, the children will design and construct a pathway for a toy car or marble to travel, showing their knowledge of the content learned. We require the children to bring in some construction materials, items such as cereal boxes and cardboard tubes. In Religion, students will explore forgiveness, reconciliation and the Sacrament of Penance. Using scripture, ICTs and picture books, we will examine broken relationships and how relationships are restored through forgiveness. For our Geography and History units the children will be looking at Continents and Oceans and Transport.   In Mathematics, we will explore

  • addition and subtraction strategies
  • word problems and number sentences
  • telling and writing the time – O’clock, half past, a quarter past and a quarter to
  • calendars, months and seasons
  • fractions, including halves, thirds and quarters
  • location and transformation
  • problem solving strategies

This term, students will continue to receive their homework on a Friday and is expected to be handed in the following Friday.  Spelling words will be assessed each Friday morning.   These spelling words will be available on the blog and on the homework paper copy.  Studyladder and a number of other online activities will continue to be available via a link on the class blog. We encourage students to continue to access Studyladder and other interactive games listed on the class blog, as a fun way to consolidate concepts explored at school. As we move towards the end of the year and students gain greater confidence in negotiating their belongings, we encourage students to take greater responsibility for keeping track of their homework, spelling and home reading/sight word schedules. A reminder, spelling words and homework can be accessed via a link on the class blog, if spelling lists/homework sheets go missing.

Year 2 teachers and students are responsible for leading the Father’s Day Liturgy in September this term.  The date for this liturgy is Friday 5th September at 7.15am.  Please watch for more information on this liturgy.

2 Green has their assembly on Wednesday 13th August, please keep this date free to attend assembly and watch your child.
