Week 9

Hi Parents

Hope everyone is safe at home on this stormy Sunday evening. Well can you believe that this is the last week of Term One!!?? We've done a lot this term and the children really deserve a break but we still have a busy week ahead before holidays can begin.

This week we will finish our History and English units and we will continue to investigate measurement in Maths.

Religion will be a big focus this week as we learn about Holy Week. We ask that children not bring Easter eggs to share this week if this is something that they would like to do. Rather, we ask that this be left until after the holidays as this is when we will celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.

A reminder that tomorrow, Monday 25th March, is a free dress day with a gold coin donation going to Caritas. Thank you for your generous giving to Caritas throughout Lent. It's been lovely watching the children happily add donations into the class Caritas box for communities less fortunate then ours during our morning prayer rituals.

A reminder that tomorrow is also Cross Country so the free dress clothing needs to be appropriate for running in.

We look forward to seeing you at the Showcase Evening on Wednesday 27th March between 6 - 7pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to see the classroom and the work the children have produced.

Enjoy you week and we wish you a wonderful Easter and holiday.

Regards,

Felicity and Melissa

P.S. A reminder that Homework is due this Thursday. We're sure you'd like a break and don't want to see it for a couple of weeks!

Week 8

Hi Parents
It's hard to believe that we are in the second last week of the term!  It will be a busy week as we finish assessment tasks in readiness for Portfolios and our Showcase evening.

In Maths we will be revising different ways of informally measuring objects (e.g. handspan) and explore more formal ways of measuring lengths, heights and capacities.

In English we will begin to look at greeting cards as part of our 'Special Occasions' unit. The students are welcome to bring a greeting card in to share with the class (eg. birthday, baptism, Mother's Day etc). We will be looking at the format of greeting cards and rhymes.

Homework was due today and the children took a new homework grid home. Please note that it is due at the end of next week.

A reminder that next Monday 25th March is cross country and free dress day. Children should come dressed in clothing suitable for running.

Showcase Evening is next Wednesday 27th March from 6 - 7pm. We look forward to seeing you there.

Have a good week,
Felicity & Melissa

Week 7

Hi Parents,
Please check below to see what is happening this week.

Maths - we are revising work already done and the children will be doing a maths test. You will see this in the portfolios at the end of this term.

English - we are continuing with our discussion on Special Occasions. The children will be writing a recount on a favourite Special Occasion. Please chat with them about this as it will help them remember the event and sequence their recount.

History - we are continuing with Logan unit. Ask the children what they know about Logan in the 'olden' days and please feel welcome to share anything you or grandparents may have from this time. We would welcome grandparents to talk to the children as well.

Hope you have a lovely week.

Regards,
Felicity & Melissa

Week 6

Wow, over half way through the term already! Where is the time going???

This week we are beginning our second English unit for the term - 'Special Occasions'.
The two genres we will be covering over the next four weeks are 'recount' and 'card's.
Talking with your child about special occasions your family has experienced will help them to recall these events which will also assist them in writing a recount of a special occasion.

In Maths we are revising all topics covered so far this term in preparation for a maths test next week. You can help your child by doing lots of counting from 0 - 200 with them. (Counting forwards, backwards, in 2s, 5s & 10s from any starting point, ie. 5, 7, 9, etc...)

This week we will also finish our Science unit 'Watch it Grow!' and begin our History unit on Logan.

A big thank you to our students and their families for the generous donations to Caritas. We have already raised $83.40!!!!

Hope you have a good week,
Felicity & Melissa
