Week 8

Welcome to Week 8.

The book we are focusing on in English this week is Where's the Gold. We will be discussing intertextuality (the interrelationship between texts, especially works of literature; the way that similar or related texts influence, reflect, or differ from each other: the intertextuality between two novels with the same setting. We will also discuss and explore rhythm and rhyme.

In maths, we are continuing to work with fractions - halves, quarters and thirds.

A reminder the Father's Day stall is on tomorrow (Tuesday 27th August). Gifts are priced between $1 and $5.

The Father's Day liturgy is on this Friday, 30th August. It begins at 7.15 am and breakfast follows. A reminder that children participating in the liturgy need to be at school by 7.05am so we can be ready to start on time.

Have a good week.

Week 7

Welcome to another week. It's hard to believe we are now over half way through an eleven week term, time's flying!

The children (and parents) need to be congratulated on the fantastic effort that was put into costumes for the Book Week parade last Wednesday. Everyone looked great! The children also need to be congratulated for their reverent behaviour at last Thursday's whole school mass to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption.

On Tuesday, the children will be doing part one of this term's maths test. Following this we will begin our focus on Fractions and Decimals.  We will start by revising halves before exploring quarters and thirds.

In English our sound for this week is 'ore' and 'our'. The Pamela Allen book we are focusing on is Our Daft Dog Danny.  Through the text we will be exploring direct speech.

Have a good week,

Week 6

Hi, we hope everyone enjoyed yesterday's holiday. This week is an exciting week in Year 2! This morning the children participated in Under 8's morning where they joined in many activities including face painting, hair colouring, threading, bubble blowing, chalk drawing, butterfly prints, paper planes and balloon people.

Don't forget costumes for Book Week tomorrow morning. The parade will take place in Siena at 9.15 am. Children wear their costume to school and have their uniform packed so they can change after the parade.

There is a whole school mass for the Feast of the Assumption on Thursday at 9am.

In maths we are continuing to revising the work covered at the end of last term and the beginning of this term in preparation for the first Maths Test. (Rather than do one large maths test for the term we are going to break it into two smaller ones). We will be revising money (coins and notes); time (o'clock, half-past, quarter past and quarter to, calendars (days of week and months of year) and seasons; addition and subtraction word problems; counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s and adding 10, 20, 30 etc. to numbers; rainbow facts & doubles/near doubles.
New activities have been added to Studyladder and the children are encouraged to do these at home as well.

The Pamela Allen book we are focusing on this week is Daisy All-Sorts. Our grammar focus is onset and rime.

We have now begun our History unit: Now and Then Transport and our current focus is on cars.

Have a good week,
Felicity & Melissa

Week 5

Welcome to Week 5! This week we are finishing our Science unit on Water and we will be introducing our History unit. The children will be finishing their Water wise posters on the computer to demonstrate their learning in science. In Religion our focus will turn away from Jesus' teachings in the Parables to exploring the concepts of Love and Forgiveness.

In maths we are revising the work covered at the end of last term and the beginning of this term in preparation for the first Maths Test. (Rather than do one large maths test for the term we are going to break it into two smaller ones). We will be revising money (coins and notes); time (o'clock, half-past, quarter past and quarter to, calendars (days of week and months of year) and seasons; addition and subtraction word problems; counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s and adding 10, 20, 30 etc. to numbers.
New activities have been added to Studyladder and the children are encouraged to do these at home as well. Practise makes perfect and will help with the upcoming test!

In English the Pamela Allen book we are focusing on is Cuthbert's Babies. We will explore alliteration and rhyme.
