Week 4

Hi and welcome to another week.

This morning the children attended a Water wise presentation from Logan City Council.  It was a very interactive experience and the children demonstrated how much they have learnt by being able to answer all the questions they were asked! All students will bring home a bookmark and a magnet and a lucky few are also taking home a water bottle they won as a prize.  They are becoming experts at saving water so hopefully you see savings on your water bills!

In maths we are continuing to work on the areas already covered so far this term and we are also exploring calendars and seasons. The children need to know the days of the week, months of the year, how many days in a month and what seasons fall in which months.

In English we are exploring 'alliteration' (when words start with the same sound, i.e. a piece of pie).  The Pamela Allen book we will be focusing on is 'Grandpa, Thomas and the Green Umbrella'.

A reminder to return Father's day forms and email a photo of the children with their dads to fpryer@bne.catholic.edu.au.

Hope you have a good week,
Felicity and Melissa

Week 3

Welcome to Week 3.  We already seem to be flying through this 11 week term!
A reminder homework is now due on Fridays and children should be reading nightly on top of their homework sheet.

Maths: we are continuing to revise money and word problems using addition and subtraction. We are also exploring adding groups of 10 to single-digit numbers, i.e. 4 + 10; 4 + 20; 4 + 30 etc.  We will also revise reading o'clock, half-past, quarter past and quarter to times.

English: This week our sound is r influenced 'er'. The children will be learning about 'onomatopoeias'. Ask the children if they can remember how to pronounce it! If they can't it's pronounced 'on-a-mat-a-pee-a'. This refers to the use of a word which imitates the sound it represents, i.e. hiss.

Religion: We will be starting to explore some of Jesus' parables in the New Testament of the Bible.

Science:  We will continue our investigation of water - where it comes from, it's importance as a resource and ways we can conserve it.

Have a great week!

Week 2

Welcome to another week. The children had a great week last week, we couldn't believe how much they seem to have grown up over the holidays.

This week in maths we are revising single-digit subtraction facts and looking at word problems that use single-digit subtractions to find the answer.

In English we are exploring the first Pamela Allen book of the unit: Shh, Little Mouse!  This week our spelling words have 'air' and 'are'.

We are continuing our science unit.  Look out for photos of our investigations into water!

Ask your children to tell you about God's Dream. (Part of our Religion unit)

A reminder that tomorrow (Tuesday 16th) is photo day.  A few children still have forms outstanding and they must be returned before they have their photo taken. The children need to come dressed in their full dress uniform (check shirt), and have the correct coloured socks and shoes. Girls should have long hair tied back and wear school coloured bobbles, ribbons etc.

Hope you all have a good week. Fingers crossed the forecasters have it wrong!

Week 1

Welcome to the beginning of Term 3! We hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday and we look forward to hearing the children's stories during the week.

The children will bring home new look homework from this week. Homework will consist of a WEEKLY homework sheet that will be sent home on a Monday and will be due on the Friday of the same week. We will continue to alternate between Homework books 1 & 2. Weekly spelling words will be on the homework sheet.

This week in maths we are revising single-digit additions and exploring word problems. The children will write word problems as number sentences. We are also beginning work on reading calendars.

In literacy, we will be looking at book reports, the themes of different books and favourite books and themes the children enjoy. This will introduce our English unit where we will be doing an Author study and the children will write their own book report.

There will be information about the units of work we will be covering in the Term Overview letter which will be sent home shortly.

Have a good week,
Felicity & Melissa
