Week 1
Welcome to 2 Green. I am delighted to be teaching your child and look forward to meeting you and working with you throughout the year.
This week, we, the school officers and myself will begin to get to know your child and we will also begin the establishment of the classroom routines and rules. We will be revising some Year One literacy and numeracy work after the long summer holiday and we will also do some Australiana themed work centred around Australia Day.
You will receive a Term One newsletter shortly outlining special days, homework and units of work. We will also give you a weekly update on this blog so please refer to it regularly.
Kind regards,
Felicity

Week 6
Welcome to Week 6. This week will probably be the busiest of the term for us as we finish up assessments and start swimming.
The children will continue to have homework and they may read Monday and Tuesday nights this week but after that we need to stop issuing home readers. We are requesting all home readers be returned by the end of this week so we can mark them off and return the boxes to the library. Some children have had a home reader out for quite some time. If books are missing, please use this week to search for them. We have told the children we hope they continue to read either their own books from home or books borrowed from the local council library for the remainder of the school year and during the school holidays. Word recognition, the development of fluency and tone and comprehension are skills that need regular practise. Regular reading will help set them up for a successful start to Year 3.
On Monday at 2.30 pm in Siena we are joining with the whole school for the Remembrance Day service. All welcome to attend.
Swimming begins on Tuesday and we swim again on Thursday. If possible, it would be very helpful if children can come to school wearing swimmers under their uniform and with sunscreen already on. This will mean they only need a few minutes to remove their uniform and shoes/socks and put on their rashies, thongs, cap and towel. This will give us more time to get work done in the classroom.
On Wednesday, we are hosting Mass at 9am in the church. Please join us for Mass and the morning tea to follow.
Have a great week.
Regards,
Felicity Pryer & Melissa Evans

Week 5
This week sees us half way through the term. It's flying by far too quickly! For the next couple of weeks the children are going to be busy completing assessment tasks as they get ready to finish up Year 2. The positive is there is time in the final weeks to reflect on what they have learnt, practise things they need to work on and enjoy Christmas activities. Expect them to be more tired than usual over the next couple of weeks!
This week in Maths we are looking at location and direction on maps and grids. We are also continuing to revise concepts in preparation for the two maths tests. (Once again we are doing two smaller ones as we found it worked better for the children.)
In English we are continuing work with grammar and the children are also working on their assessment, based on one of the fairytale texts we have explored this term. Our spelling is focusing on adding 'ing'.
In Religion, we are discussing and finding ways we can be stewards of God's creation.
Please note that swimming lessons begin next Tuesday (Week 6). Next Wednesday, 13 November, 2 Green is hosting Mass at 9 am in the church. The children who have been allocated speaking parts took these home last week. Please remind them to practise.
Hope you have a fantastic week.

Week 4
Welcome to Week 4. This week we are continuing to work busily on our units of work in preparation for assessment tasks. Thank you to all parents who have sent in collage items for our science assessment. The children are very much looking forward to using the items to show us what they have learnt about force and motion!
In English our spelling focus is on the diphthong 'oy'. We are continuing our focus on nouns, adjectives, direct speech in texts, as well as the use of visual resources to add meaning to texts.
In Maths we are continuing our work with multiplication and sharing concepts. We are also introducing chance - exploring the possible outcomes of events and discussing the likelihood of events.
After learning about the life of St. Francis over the past couple of weeks, the children will this week make a book about him.
A reminder that swimming starts on the Tuesday of Week 6. We will swim on the following dates:
Week 6: Tuesday 12th & Thursday 14th November
Week 7: Tuesday 19th & Thursday 21st November
Week 8: Tuesday 26th & Thursday 28th November
2 Green are hosting mass on Wednesday 13th November at 9am. 2 Maroon and 2 Navy will be joining us. We look forward to seeing you there.
Have a lovely week,
Felicity Pryer & Melissa Evans

Week 2
Welcome to a new week. In English our shared reading text is Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The children will be sequencing the story, identifying the "big idea" and identifying good and bad characters. We will be reading and viewing a few versions of this text and comparing them. Our spelling focus is the double consonants '-ss' & '-zz'.
In Maths we are continuing to investigate area through a number of hands on measuring activities. We will also introduce and explore multiplication using groups and arrays as well as multiplication word problems.
In Science the children will investigate different things moving in the playground and use iPads to record and describe forces and motions.
In Religion we are exploring God's creation and introducing St. Francis of Assai.
A reminder that next Monday 21st October is a Pupil Free Day.
The Term 4 newsletter was sent home today, keep an eye out for it.
Hope you have a good week,

Week 1
A warm welcome back to Term 4. We hope everyone had a relaxing holiday and we are looking forward to an enjoyable last term of the year with the great children of Two Green! There is a lot to fit into the last 9 weeks of the school year so please check the blog, twitter and the newsletter for dates of importance.
The children will be bringing home the Term 4 Overview by the end of the week. This will contain an outline of the units of work we will be covering.
This week in maths we are revising and continuing to practise addition and subtractions. We will also be learning about area - the amount of surface a shape covers.
A reminder that Monday 21st October is a pupil free day for the children.
Have a great week,

Week 11
The last week of the term, where did the time go?! Thank you to our parents for the amazing turnout to Showcase Evening, it was loving to see so many and to have the chance to catch up. The children really enjoyed testing their parents' geographical knowledge too!
We hope the children keep up their reading over the break, not only to help them improve but to foster a life long love of reading. There will be revision activities on Studyladder for the children to do as well. (Maybe for when they say they're bored?!)
A reminder that Monday 7th October is a public holiday so school resumes on Tuesday 8th October. Keep an eye out for the term newsletter that will be sent home in the first week back. It will contain lots of information about dates to remember - there is a lot to fit into the 9 weeks of Term 4! We will also post dates of upcoming events on the blog too so please watch this space.
Finally, thanks for the support over the term and we hope everyone has a safe and happy Spring holiday.
